For the anti-Valentine reader

Adriana suggests "don't say it with flowers, say it with bile".

As a public service to all those who feel the same way about the looming "unimaginative, consumerist-oriented and entirely arbitrary, manipulative and shallow interpretation of romance day", here is a site that might provide just what you need to get through it. [. . .]

Or as a friend once said: Valentine's Day is to love as tap water is to tequila.

I think Adriana's had a fundamental failure of imagination. All you have to do is think up something that your loved one might like. Perhaps getting flowers delivered to her office. Or prepare a nice breakfast before dashing off to work. Doesn't have to be expensive, nor related to chocolate or lingerie. Hell, I don't even get a card half the time. It's not that hard to do something nice, really. And you don't have to rely on Hallmark or Victoria's Secret for ideas. Whenever I hear people bitch about it, I can't help but think: those guys just have zero creativity. Posted by: Chris Taylor at February 15, 2006 08:55 AM

Chris Taylor: My imagination is just fine, thank you. It's the Valentine's day I don't like. Geez. Emotional incontinence on cue... Posted by: Adriana at February 16, 2006 03:45 AM
